The Creator and Human Liberty

True liberty is not a license to do whatever we want. It is the freedom to do what is right and to love and serve others. The founders of America understood this deeply, connecting civil government to the principles of Christianity and recognizing that our rights come from God, not from government. The Declaration of Independence appeals to the laws of nature and the laws of nature's God, affirming that no earthly authority can override what He has established. When a nation forgets the source of its freedom, it begins to lose the blessings that came with honoring Him. The healing of a nation begins with the humility of God's people, as promised in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Both spiritual and national freedom are never accidental. They are the result of people who honored God, sacrificed for others, and refused to forget where their liberty came from.
